Frequently Asked Questions

  1. How accurate are the performance times?

We work very hard to run our competitions on time, but we can only do it with your help. Your team is required to report “in the hole” two teams prior to their performance and wait “on deck” for their turn. They must then take the floor IMMEDIATELY. Entrances and exits are not judged, so please make them as efficient as possible. Please watch the competition carefully—we often get ahead of schedule, and teams are expected to be ready for performance regardless. However, we will not start any of the three portions of the competition prior to the stated times.
  2. Do I have to play my own music?

Cheer teams need to have a coach or designee stand at the sound table and operate the music. Dance teams may signal to the scorers table the appropriate time to begin the music. CDs and cassettes are both acceptable. There may or may not be time to perform a sound check.
  3. What kind of mat will be available for cheer?

All cheer teams and stunt groups will compete on a standard cheer mat (7 rolls.) Solos and stunt teams compete on the main mat.
  4. Where do we get dressed?

Several lockers/restrooms are available throughout the facility. Teams will be asked to store their belongings in seats opposite the main spectator area. Please be cautious with your belongings. We will make every effort to patrol storage areas, but we cannot be responsible for lost/stolen/damaged items.
  5. How were the divisions divided?

Middle and elementary school divisions will be divided based on age/grade as entries warrant. Watch for more details when registrations are final. Varsity dance teams will be divided based on size of school, and every attempt is made to make the divisions equal. If you did not include your total enrollment on your entry, it was obtained from the current WIAA Directory. All Star Teams placed in the school category will competing with the largest schools in their divisions. If you feel you are misplaced, please contact Julie Fullerton ASAP. As always, we welcome your feedback on this process.
  6. Why are there more awards in the elementary and middle school divisions?

We believe these young athletes deserve a little extra encouragement and recognition. We want everyone to have a positive experience, but we know that these young cheerleaders and dancers create the future for our sport, and we hope to support them as they continue to develop their athletic proficiency. The better they are, the better our sport becomes.
  7. How many judges will there be? Where are they from?

There will be three to five judges per performance. Judges are from a variety of backgrounds. No one organization (i.e. UCA, NDA, etc.) is favored. Judges are selected on the basis of their overall qualifications. Dance solos and Dance Challenge groups will have two performance judges.
